Digital product passports for a circular economy: Data needs for product life cycle decision-making

نویسندگان

چکیده

Digital product passports have been proposed as a policy instrument to enable decision-making throughout life cycles in favour of circular economy. However, due nascent conceptualisation and weak industrial embeddedness, the contents such an are source uncertainty. Situated mechatronics context, this multiple-case study explores data needs for digital passports. Extant research reveals seven clusters: (1) usage maintenance, (2) identification, (3) products materials, (4) guidelines manuals, (5) supply chain reverse logistics, (6) environmental (7) compliance. To contextualise these clusters, interviews with three original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) well their respective customers, service partners, suppliers third-party recycling companies were conducted. Through survey, each specific point was assessed terms importance, availability sensitivity. The findings show differentiating across actors, yet exchange its supporting infrastructure closing resource loops remain at low maturity. Consequently, policymakers recommended roll out gradual stages, while managers should proactively reconfigure flows account chain. Future is encouraged explore use other industries.

Using P2P sharing activity to improve business decision making: proof concept for estimating product life-cycle

Estimating the life-cycle or duration of a product can be an important input into a firm's decision-making related to production and marketing. In the music industry, online Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks have attracted millions of poten tial music consumers and have had substantial impact on the music business. In this paper, we investigate the possible use of P2P information in estimating produ...

Towards facilitating circular product life-cycle information flow via remanufacturing

In order to achieve a sustainable development, circular economy approaches and circular material flows are explored in industry. However, circular information flows remain essentially unestablished. The aim of this paper is to: 1) explore categories and types of product life-cycle information available for remanufacturing; 2) identify constraints for efficient product life-cycle information flo...

Geometrical product specifications - model for product life cycle

As technology increases and performance requirements continually tighten, the cost and required precision of assemblies increase as well. There exists a strong need for increased attention to tolerance design to enable high-precision assemblies to be manufactured at lower cost. For automotive and aircraft industries, the tolerancing process has become an important issue in product and process d...

Product modeling for computer-aided decision-making

In this paper we describe the product modeling techniques that we use for the development of a computer-aided decisionmaking tool for the building industry. We start with an introduction to modeling and a brief description of the goals and scope of the project, and follow with an extensive presentation and discussion of the modeling techniques employed. We conclude with a brief description of o...

Ant Colony Optimization for Multi-objective Digital Convergent Product Network

Convergent product is an assembly shape concept integrating functions and sub-functions to form a final product. To conceptualize the convergent product problem, a web-based network is considered in which a collection of base functions and sub-functions configure the nodes and each arc in the network is considered to be a link between two nodes. The aim is to find an optimal tree of functionali...
